february 28th 2009 - "..Yehuda Moon rules..."

we've just discovered a fantastic comic strip by Rick Smith called 'Yehuda Moon'. One man's battle to get people cycling in ordinary clothes.

february 15th 2009 "classics from the eighties..."

Just giving you guys a heads up about three classic jerseys from the early eighties we'll be auctioning on our Convicts of the Road eBay store this week. We've got a 1982 Gis Gelati jersey, an '83 Gelati Sammontana jersey and a fantastic 1983 Elro warm up top going under the hammer.

The Gis Gelati is 80% wool and its in great condition. Their '82 squad included the legendary domestique Eddy Schepers.

The Sammontana is made by Santini and their team in '83 featured a young and fresh faced Moreno Argentin.

The Elro speaks for itself, super colours, super logos and super rare.

Keep an eye out!

february 13th 2009 - "hell on wheels..."

If you haven't already, we urge you to get hold of a copy of the fantastic DVD 'hell on wheels', perhaps the finest documentary about the Tour de France we've seen.

The film focusses on the 2003 Tour de France, primarily from the inside of the T-Mobile squad and features awesome footage of the race as well as superb fly on the wall stuff of Erik Zabel and his trusty roommate and domestique Rolf Aldag.

In this clip, Erik explains the massive debt he owes to the sacrifices of his good friend.

february 6th 2009 - " Magnus Backstedt retires..."

Magnus Backstedt has today announced his retirment from racing at the Pro Tour level. He's struggled with injury and illness for three seasons now and he's deciced to call it a day.

The Convicts were on the mountainside on Le Plat d'Adet during the 2005 Tour de France when the big man came in some 20 odd minutes behind the autobus and got eliminated, missing the time cut. He still had the guts to finish, despite the fact that he was really suffering. Chapeau, big fella!

Here's a clip from happier times, when he won Paris-Roubaix in 2004.

february 3rd 2009 - "japanese keirin tv advert..."

another track gem from youtube...

january 30th 2009 - "disturbing footage of dave zabriskie flogging his own brand of chamois cream.."

Not for the faint hearted, believe you me...

january 28th 2009 - "Munich six day gem..."

Six day riders on the european circuit are some of the toughest SOB's around. Hammering the boards for hundreds of laps a night for six straight days until 3am requires a certain kind of mental fortitude.

It's sometimes hard to know exactly just what the hell's going on as a spectator and, sometimes, even if you're a rider in the midst of the ritualised mayhem.

We recently picked up this fantastic adidas gem from an old Munich six day event.

The lycra content is as pure as you'll get in any jersey just so it feels super silky and helps keep the rider cool. This is a large according to the label, but remember these are supposed to fit like a second skin and be the cycling equivalent of body paint.

We're auctioning the jersey this week on ebay so keep and eye out if you fancy it.

january 27th 2009 - "the MASH SF boys in Austin with Big Tex..."

january 27th 2009 - "don't get high on your own supply..."

As some of you guys know, we only keep one jersey each for ourselves per shipment. This is a business after all. It can be pretty difficult when you're dealing with the retro velo version of crack cocaine.

Check out this classic autographed rainbow jersey in PDM colours that dropped through the door from Belgium a few months ago.

Rudy Dhaenens won the World Championship Road Race in 1990 when riding for the PDM squad. What makes this jersey so much more poignant is that he was tragically killed in a car accident in 1998.

As you can see, the jersey's personally signed by Irish legend Sean Kelly as well as others. We can make out Eric Breukink but the other signatures are a bit of a mystery.

Although were holding on to this for the time being, everything has its price and if you want to make us an offer or can help us to identify the other signatures please do get in touch: mail@puncheur.com

january 26th 2009 - "Merckx gets fixed..."

We've had an old 56cm Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra SLX 88/89 frame knocking around the lock-up for months now. The colour scheme is affectionately known in the Merckx catalogue as 'Tutti-Frutti' - and the cap certainly fits...

We figured that it might benefit from being built fixed so here it is. TBH its got a bit of an identity crisis; A handmade Belgian steel frame with a mixture of Italian and Japanese parts but it still looks the nuts...

Open to offers if any of you out there are interested and want more details - drop us a line on mail@puncheur.com
